What is Home by Samm-Art Williams about?

Farm boy Cephus Miles hails from a small community in North Carolina where grabbing opportunities means leaving town. He’s happy, with a sweetheart who he’s engaged to - until Pattie Mae leaves for college and marries another, more successful, man.

First staged by the Negro Ensemble Company - whose past members include Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne, Samuel L. Jackson and Denzel Washington - Home is a muscular but tender story about the search for home and belonging.

Cast and Creatives

This new revival is directed by Kenny Leon, who won a Tony Award for his new staging of A Raisin in the Sun in 2014. His other credits include the Broadway premiere of Charles Fuller's Pulitzer Prize-winning play A Soldier's Play.

It was a critically acclaimed success and scooped Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations. Now back on Broadway over 40 years later, it is still a stunning depiction of belonging that will grip audiences as much as it did at its first ever performance.
