American choreographer Annie-B Parson brings her electrifying production 17c to the London stage, in a thrilling UK premiere. Playing a strictly limited number of performances at The Old Vic, the dance show is presented by New York’s Big Dance Theater company and is co-produced by The Old Vic and Dance Umbrella.
Thrilling audiences across the globe, dance company Big Dance Theater arrive in London to present their story of Samuel Pepys. A man desperate to be at the cutting edge, his diaries tell us everything, from committing to self-improvement to serial adultery on his tragic wife, Bess.
17c sees his diaries come off the page and on to the stage, featuring music, dance, video and spoken word in a reverb-soaked feminist raid that pierces the centre of his stories. Expect to laugh, cry and be shocked at the exciting tales of a real diarist of the 17th century.
The production is conceived and directed by Annie-B Parson, whose credits span the Royal Ballet and musicals including Here Lies Love and Lazarus. She is best-known for co-founding Big Dance Theater, creating numerous thought-provoking dance productions.
17c is co-directed by her husband Paul Lazar and features sound design by Tej Blow, set design by Joanne Howard, costume design by Oana Botez, lighting design by Joe Levasseur and video design by Jeff Larson.
