Overview

Alan Ayckbourn’s riotous A Chorus of Disapproval returns to the London stage for the first time since the National Theatre’s hit production more than 25 years ago. First staged in 1984 at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre, this hilarious revival stars comedy actors Rob Brydon, Nigel Harman and Ashely Jensen in the leading roles.

A Chorus of Disapproval sees the Pendon Amateur Light Operatic Society attempt to put on a shambolic production of The Beggar’s Opera. When handsome young widower Guy joins the group, he becomes an instant hit with the company’s wayward director Dafydd, as well as his wife Hannah and the show’s leading ladies! Soon, Guy becomes embroiled in all manner of mishaps, misadventures and mayhem as he discovers that all of the best action happens behind the curtain.

Rob Brydon makes his West End debut starring as the overly zealous Dafydd, alongside Olivier Award-winning actor Nigel Harman (Shrek the Musical) and Ashley Jensen (Extras, Ugly Betty). Brydon is best-known for his on screen appearances in I’m Alan Partridge, Gavin & Stacey and Would I Lie to You. Further cast members include Teresa Banham, Daisy Beaumont, Georgia Brown, Rob Compton, Matthew Cottle, Steven Edis, Jessica Ellerby, Barrie Rutter, Paul Thornley and Susan Tracy.

Directed by the legendary Olivier and Tony Award-winning Trevor Nunn (Cats, Les Miserables), A Chorus of Disapproval is the smash-hit comedy that returns to London for the first time in decades. Both laugh-out-loud and touching, this revival of Ayckbourn’s beloved play is sure to entertain audiences, opening at the Harold Pinter Theatre for a limited season.
