Award-winning comedian Adam Kay returns to the West End for two weeks this summer with his one-man show, This Is Going to Hurt (Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor). After sharing his compelling, often silly, and sometimes heart-breaking reminiscences across the UK, the show plays at the Vaudeville Theatre from 1 July 2019.
This Is Going to Hurt was a massive hit at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and its popularity has only grown thanks to a UK tour and earlier West End performances at the Duchess Theatre in 2018 and Garrick Theatre in 2019. Using entries from his own diaries whilst training as a junior doctor, Kay’s irresistible combination of confessional writing, comedy and live music brings the trials and tribulations of NHS workers into sharp relief.
Adam Kay is an award-winning writer, whose work has spanned Mrs. Brown’s Boys and Mitchell & Webb to columns for the Sunday Times. His book, This Is Going to Hurt has been a mainstay of book clubs and bestselling charts since its publication in 2017. It has been translated into 33 languages and is currently being adapted as a limited series for television.
Featuring live music, humour and harrowing stories from the NHS frontline, This Is Going to Hurt is a unique insight into one of the UK’s best-known institutions, and a celebration of the people who make it work. Enjoy its compelling mix of spoof, wordplay and hard-hitting truths when it opens at the Vaudeville Theatre on 1 July 2019.
