Svetlana Zakharova, the Bolshoi luminary ballerina, collaborates with three world renowned choreographers, Yuri Possokhov, Patrick de Bana and Marguerite Donlon, to deliver an astonishing balletic triple bill to premiere in London this autumn. Three stunning stories of love, despair and the battle between light and darkness arrive at the London Coliseum this November.
Opening this unique evening is Yuri Possokhov’s masterpiece Francesca da Rimini. This heart-wrenching story of the accursed lovers from Dante’s Inferno is set to Tchaikovsky’s symphonic poem, meditating on the doomed pair as they are condemned to eternal torment.
Next on the bill is Patrick de Bana’s mysterious and ephemeral Rain Before it Falls. This striking piece concerns the choice on the eternal crossroads of darkness and light. The performance is scored with a captivating fusion of Bach and Respighi, mixed with modern electronica by Carlos Pina-Quintana.
The final performance features Svetlana Zakharova supported by five the Bolshoi dancers, including stellar premieres from Mikhail Lobukhin, Denis Rodkin and Denis Savin. Scored to Mozart’s “Symphony No.40”, Strokes Through the Tail is a playful piece choreographed by Marguerite Donlon, with live accompaniment by the Orchestra of English National Opera.
