Legendary Oscar and Tony Award-winning actress Dame Angela Lansbury returns to London’s West End for the first time in almost forty years. Reuniting with director Michael Blakemore (Kiss Me, Kate), Lansbury reprises her 2009 Tony Award-winning role as Madame Arcati in Noel Coward’s inimitably hilarious Blithe Spirit.
Originally opening in the West End in 1941, Blithe Spirit is a darkly comic farce that follows Charles Condomine as he invites the eccentric medium Madame Arcati to his house for a séance. Trapping Charles in a trance, Madame Arcati accidentally summons the ghost of his dead wife Elvira, who is less than happy that Charles has since married new wife Ruth. Bit by bit, Elvira begins to wreak havoc at the séance, causing a series of troublesome events that eventually become life threatening. Soon, it’s up to Charles and Madame Arcati to extricate the naughty spook, and fast!
