Legendary actress Dame Angela Lansbury reprises her Tony Award-winning performance as the eccentric Madame Arcati in Noel Coward’s beloved comedy Blithe Spirit. Directed once again by Michael Blakemore, Blithe Spirit is the other-worldly farce of a séance gone wrong, which ends up endangering the very man who hosted it! Originally opening in the West End in 1941, Blithe Spirit is a darkly comic farce that follows Charles Condomine as he invites the eccentric medium Madame Arcati to his house for a séance. Trapping Charles in a trance, Madame Arcati accidentally summons the ghost of his dead wife Elvira, who is less than happy that Charles has since married new wife Ruth. Bit by bit, Elvira begins to wreak havoc at the séance, causing a series of troublesome events that eventually become life threatening. Soon, it’s up to Charles and Madame Arcati to extricate the naughty spook, and fast!
Starring as Madame Arcati, Angela Lansbury has a stage and screen career that has spanned decades. A household name, she has won 5 Tony Awards and 6 Golden Globes, appearing in iconic musicals such as Sweeney Todd, Gypsy and A Little Night Music.
