About A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story

Marley was dead, or so Scrooge thought. The mean-spirited moneylender plans to spend his Christmas as he always does: working and collecting debts. But when the ghost of his old partner appears on Christmas Eve night with a stark warning, Scrooge’s life changes forever. As three more ghosts usher him on a haunting journey, the most famous miser of them all realises that it isn’t too late to change his ways…

After a hugely successful run in 2021, writer and actor Mark Gatiss’ version of Charles Dickens’ ghost story returns to Alexandra Palace. Gatiss’ love of all things Victorian and supernatural makes this a startling watch with spine-tingling effects, whilst also reveling in the pure delight of Christmas.

Mark Gatiss’ A Christmas Carol Creative Team

A Christmas Carol at Alexandra Palace Theatre is penned by stage and screenwriter and actor Mark Gatiss. Best known for his work on The League of Gentlemen and Sherlock, Gatiss’ incredible knowledge of Victorian gothic, and eye for dark comedy, comes to the fore in this electrifying adaptation of a Christmas classic.

The show is directed by Nottingham Playhouse Artistic Director Adam Penford.

Keith Allen in A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story

Keith Allen, stars as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story. He is best known for his work on stage and screen, including Shallow Grave and Robin Hood.

Other casting includes Peter Forbes as Marley, Leona Allen as Caroline, James Backway as Fred and Rebecca Trehearn as Mrs Cratchit.

In its initial run, Scrooge was played by Nicholas Farrell (Chariots of Fire; The Iron Lady), with Gatiss playing Jacob Marley.
