Overview

Family favourite pantomime Cinderella danced into the West End's London Palladium for a festive run throughout December 2016. Cinderella marked the first return of pantomime in a grand 29 years, with the last silly spectacular having played in 1987, starring Barbara Windsor in Babes in the Woods. With a star-studded cast heading up the show, Cinderella was a terrific treat!

A classic rags-to-riches fairytale that is performed as a pantomime across the country, Cinderella follows down-on-her-luck Cinderella as she slaves away for her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. When it is announced that Prince Charming is looking for a wife by hosting a glittering ball, Cinders' ugly stepsisters make sure that she won't be attending. But poor Cinderella is soon cheered up by the appearance of a Fairy Godmother, who promises to get her to the ball! With the typical panto twist, including a hilarious dame and doting Buttons, Cinderella is sure to get her happy ending!

Cinderella was brought to London by Qdos Entertainment, who had produced over 650 perfect pantomimes, and was co-directed by Michael Harrison (Gypsy) and Olivier Award-nominated Andrew Wright (Mrs Henderson Presents). With a whole host of spectacular sets and dazzling costumes, Cinderella brought British panto back with a bang!

With Paul O’Grady playing The Wicked Stepmother, Amanda Holden as the Fairy Godmother, Julian Clary as Dandini, Lee Mead taking the role of Prince Charming, Paul Zerdin as Buttons, Nigel Havers as Lord Chamberlain and Count Arthur Strong as Baron Hardup, this was one of the biggest pantomimes in Christmas 2016. West End favourite and star of Funny Girl Natasha J Barnes took the role of Cinders herself.

Having opened for the festive season on December 9th, Cinderella ran until January 15th 2017 at the London Palladium.

I am not a huge fan of pantomimes, but upon hearing of the star-studded cast, I couldn't help but book myself a ticket, and I was glad to find that most of this eagerly anticipated cast had lived up to my expectations. Paul O'Grady was dazzling as the evil stepmother. You can tell he is well experienced in panto and has perfected the art of finding the balance between funny and cringy. Julian Clary was remarkable, matching the visual extravagance of Dandini. Natasha J Barnes and Lee Mead both excelled as Cinderella and the Prince, their immaculate singing voices keeping the production somewhat grounded and real. Amanda Holden was a bland Fairy Godmother. At times it seemed she was only there to get some ticket sales, which I think was unnecessary with the likes of O'Grady, Clary and Nigel Havers in the cast. The musical numbers were thoroughly entertaining and equally hilarious. The Act II number 'If I Was Not in Pantomime' was absolutely hysterical and uplifting. Overall, this production was absolutely glorious! Very disappointed that it wasn't running for longer, but I'm very glad I saw it while it lasted.

An exceptionally funny pantomime! Very blue, but still appeals to children and adults! Paul O'Grady and Julian Clary provide most of the humour for the adults and Paul Zerdin is great for the kids. Natasha J Barnes is absolutely delightful, especially alongside the rather dopey Lee Mead. There could have been more songs, especially some more modern numbers, and at times the sheer amount of money spent on the production was all too apparent. Amanda Holden is terribly wooden, so wasn't great as the Fairy for the little ones. But that said, I haven't laughed so much at a panto for years!

I was attracted initially by the impressive cast list but the show was so much more than this. No expense seems to have been spared on the costumes which were amazing (and there were plenty of them). The staging and effects were excellent throughout and the cast lived up to expectations and sometimes more. There was very deftly executed slapstick, recognisable tunes (with clever new words!) and, for an evening audience mainly of adults, plenty of innuendo. The final scene seemed a bit abrupt but otherwise it was a great evening's entertainment.

Magnificent. Wonderfully opulent costumes, more feathers than at the Moulin Rouge and more 'jewels' than a 'Buck House' ball. With Fairy Godmother Amanda Holden, Cinderella's coach and horses and Dandini soaring above the audience like magic (though not all at the same time of course) made for gasps from the audience. The classic number 'if I were not upon the stage' led by Julian Clary as Dandini is something I don't think I will ever forget - hilarious! A great line up of stars - Lee Mead, Nigel Havers, Natasha J Barnes, Count Arthur Strong,Paul Zerdin, Suzie Chard, Wendy Somerville, led by Paul O'Grady as Baroness Hardup supported by an exuberant and talented company made it a show to remember and a hard act to follow. Loved it so much if I could get a ticket I'd watch it all over again.

An absolutely hilarious show, one of the funniest things I have ever seen, anywhere! The big names were all on top form and constantly interacted with the audience, Paul and Julian are experts at Panto and to see them on stage together was unforgettable. The show was full of extravagance and outrageousness, you couldn't ask for more from a night the theater. This a top draw pantomime, and British entertainment at its best, a show I will never forget!

A fantastic spectacle of glitz and glam with enough jokes to keep the family entertained. The set and costumes are over the top and exactly as a pant should be - bling and sing!! All the classic lines are there and a few extras (especially between Julian Clary and Paul O'Grady a few ad libs!!) a brilliant show! I would recommend this show to anybody as its a spectacle - with an excellent cast, staging and songs!!

Cinderella is a great family show, ideal for both children and adults. As well as starring a number of celebrities, it is jam packed with a number of laughs from start to finish. There is also some audience participation, which adds to the comedy. Would recommend catching the show while its on.

First London Palladium Panto for 30 years and well worth the wait, this stunning two and three-quarter hour show pulls out all the stops. Great songs/variations thereof, special effects, some amazing 'ad-lib' banter and a terrific hard working cast, all of whom really deliver the goods. Special mention to Mr O'Grady/Clary who will reduce you to tears of laughter within seconds. Sadly only a short festive run so make every attempt to see it if you want and awesome night out!
