The English National Ballet brings Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece Swan Lake to the West End’s London Coliseum at the beginning of 2019 for a strictly limited run, as part of an extensive national tour. Choreographed by Derek Deane, Swan Lake is a ballet for both seasoned dance audiences, newcomers and everyone in between.

Swan Lake is the enduring tragedy of Princess Odette, who is kidnapped and transformed into a swan. Later, she falls irreversibly in love with Prince Siegfried, which is performed here in all the splendour of the original. As the story continues, Prince Siegfried and Odette battle with the evil sorcerer Rothbart as he tries to trick Siegfried into marrying his daughter.

Building to an ultimately tragic conclusion, the beautiful ballet is accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s recognisable score, which is performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic, enhancing the story with unforgettable atmosphere. The production as features additional choreography by Frederick Ashton, design by Peter Farmer and lighting design by Howard Harrison.

Olivier Award-nominated Derek Deane choreographs Swan Lake and is best-known as one of Britain’s leading talents in the dance. After training at the Royal Ballet School and dancing for many years, he retired into choreography, becoming resident choreographer at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma then going on to become Artistic Director at English National Ballet, holding tenure from 1993 to 2001.
