Falsettos tickets

Double Tony Award-winner Falsettos is set to be your new favourite musical. Charmingly comical but profoundly poignant too, this exploration of family dynamics against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis is a disarming reminder of the power of love. See it at The Other Palace from 30 August 2019.

Selladoor Productions (9 to 5 the Musical, Avenue Q) presents the show, which premiered on Broadway in 1992. It was nominated for seven Tony Awards, going on to win Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.

This is the tale of a modern family, headed up by Marvin. He’s a gay man with a wife, a lover and a son who is about to have his bar mitzvah. His social circle also includes their psychiatrist and the lesbian neighbours. Marvin’s life plays out amongst the daily, love-laden mess of the family home, moving ever closer to a heart-rending conclusion.

Daniel Boys (Avenue Q, Spamalot) stars as Marvin, alongside Joel Montague (School of Rock) as Mendel. The cast is rounded out by Natasha J Barnes as Cordelia, Gemma Knight-Jones as Charlotte, Laura Pitt-Pulford as Trina, and Oliver Savile as Whizzer.

The show has a book by William Finn and James Lapine; music and lyrics are the work of Finn. The pair share a recent stage credit in Little Miss Sunshine.

See the stirring and hilarious musical Falsettos when it runs at The Other Palace from 30 August 2019.

This show is hilarious, relatable, heartbreaking and most of all it’s eye opening, making you think about how much our society has grown. So minimalistic in terms of the set and even the cast but this doesn’t take it away from a West End feel. The show has over 30 songs in it so is pretty much singing the whole way through which added to the humour or to the heartbreak at times. However I personally would have liked general conversation during certain parts as it wasn’t always clear to me what they were saying.

This was a very good musical. Set in the 1970s for the first half and the 1980s in the second half, it had some fabulous songs and lyrics throughout. The acting was of the highest quality (I loved the little boy playing Jason (he was an actor called George Kennedy)) and was both funny, poignant and incredibly moving. Not a dry eye in the house at the end of the show and it got a thoroughly deserved standing ovation at the end!

Outstanding production, Act I is very funny then Act II is absolutely heart wrenching. The cast are sublime, so talented and tonight’s show had standby Matthew McKenna as Whizzer and he did an amazing job, such a great voice. I can not recommend this show enough. Ticket price was an absolute bargain.

Have never quite felt this way about a show before. I really wasn’t a big fan of the first act, the set design didn’t do anything for me, no stand out moments in the score or story and I didn’t really feel like I understood why this show existed. But then I absolutely fell in love with Act 2 and felt every emotion under the sun and haven’t stopped listening to the soundtrack since. Very strange to feel like this towards a musical but well worth a watch overall.

A stunning show. Loved this. So different to a lot of the musicals you see in the west end and it’s very “Broadway”. The story is powerful, the songs are eccentric and it’s an emotional rollercoaster. Go see it for Laura Pitt-Pulford and the young actor who plays Jason.

Although the staging feels a little clunky sometimes, overall this is beautifully staged and the cast are all excellent. The music is lovely, although might not be for everyone, and the production does well to make emotional impact at the end. I would like to have seen a more diverse cast though.
