The Other Palace

The Tony Award-winning musical Falsettos rolls into The Other Palace. As hilarious as it is poignant, the show follows Marvin and his family, against the backdrop of the looming AIDS crisis.

Double Tony Award-winner Falsettos is set to be your new favourite musical. Charmingly comical but profoundly poignant too, this exploration of family dynamics against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis is a disarming reminder of the power of love. See it at The Other Palace from 30 August 2019.

Selladoor Productions (9 to 5 the Musical, Avenue Q) presents the show, which premiered on Broadway in 1992. It was nominated for seven Tony Awards, going on to win Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.

This is the tale of a modern family, headed up by Marvin. He’s a gay man with a wife, a lover and a son who is about to have his bar mitzvah. His social circle also includes their psychiatrist and the lesbian neighbours. Marvin’s life plays out amongst the daily, love-laden mess of the family home, moving ever closer to a heart-rending conclusion.

Daniel Boys (Avenue Q, Spamalot) stars as Marvin, alongside Joel Montague (School of Rock) as Mendel. The cast is rounded out by Natasha J Barnes as Cordelia, Gemma Knight-Jones as Charlotte, Laura Pitt-Pulford as Trina, and Oliver Savile as Whizzer.

The show has a book by William Finn and James Lapine; music and lyrics are the work of Finn. The pair share a recent stage credit in Little Miss Sunshine.
