Adapted from James Jones’ original novel as well as the 1953 Academy Award-winning film, From Here to Eternity debuts at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Transformed for the stage by theatrical royalty Tim Rice, From Here to Eternity is set in Hawaii during the chaos of the Second World War.

Revamped into a stage musical from the eight-time Oscar Award-winning film and novel of the same name, From Here to Eternity is the new musical from Stuart Brayson and Tim Rice. Making a world premiere at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre, the show promises to be scorching hot.

Based on the tragedy of Pearl Harbour, From Here to Eternity is set in Hawaii, amid the Second World War. Private Robert Prewitt joins G Company at the Schofield Barracks, where he meets Sergeant Milt Walden who is engaged in an affair with the Captain’s wife, Karen. Private Prewitt himself falls for a prostitute named Lorene whilst his military outfit want him to box for them, despite his continued refusal. On top of this, there is a terrifying war to fight. When the bombs begin to drop at Pearl Harbour, who will survive?

From Here to Eternity stars Darius Campbell, who shot to fame in Pop Idol, as Sergeant Warden, alongside Robert Lonsdale as Private Prewitt, Ryan Sampson as Maggio, Siubhan Harrison as Lorene and Rebecca Thornhill as Karen. Sir Tim Rice and Stuart Brayson collaborate to provide the music and lyrics, alongside a book by Bill Oakes. Directed by Tamara Harvey and designed by the prolific Soutra Gilmour, the musical includes choreography by Javier de Frutos, lighting design by Bruno Poet and sound design by Mick Potter.

Rice and Brayson’s original score includes numbers such as ‘G Company Blues’, ‘Thirty Year Man’, ‘Fight the Fight’, ‘Love Me Forever Today’ and the moving ‘Boys of ‘41’. A cast soundtrack has since been released, with many praising the show for such an inventive score.
