Doctor Foster’s Suranne Jones stars in a revival of Bryony Lavery’s gripping thriller Frozen, playing for a limited season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Following the lives of a mother, a serial killer and a psychiatrist after a 10-year old girl goes missing, the drama sees how an event can irreversibly tangle the lives of complete strangers.

BAFTA Award-winning actress Suranne Jones stars in a highly anticipated revival of Bryony Lavery’s acclaimed play Frozen, running for a strictly limited season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. A gripping psychological thriller about redemption, remorse and retribution, the drama focuses on a group of people whose lives are irreversibly tangled after a young girl goes missing.

Set in present day England, Frozen explores what happens after 10-year old girl Rhona goes to visit her Grandma one evening, but never arrives. Taking place through the year after her disappearance, the play follows the interwoven lives of Rhona’s mother, a psychiatrist and a serial killer.

Originally premiering at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 1998, the play received the Best New Play Award from the Theatrical Management Association. Frozen received its London premiere at the National Theatre in 2002, and its Broadway premiere two years later in 2004, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Play.

Suranne Jones stars as Rhona’s mother, with previous stage credits including A Few Good Men at the Haymarket and Beautiful Thing at the Arts Theatre. Jones is best known for her BAFTA-winning turn as Gemma Foster in hit BBC series Doctor Foster, as well as Scott & Bailey and Coronation Street.

Olivier Award-nominated actor Jason Watkins stars opposite as the kidnapper, with stage appearances including A Servant to Two Masters, Rafts and Dreams and Landscape with Weapon. Watkins is well-known for appearing in television series’ Being Human, Trollied and The Lost Honour of Christopher Jeffries. Additional casting includes Nina Sosanya (W1A, Last Tango in Halifax).

Jonathan Munby directs Lavery’s play, with credits including the upcoming King Lear at Chichester Festival Theatre, starring Ian McKellen, as well as several Shakespeare’s Globe credits including Antony and Cleopatra and The Merchant of Venice.

Frozen is Bryony Lavery’s most famous play, with further works including Beautiful Burnout and Last Easter. A gripping thriller about the irreversible effects of a traumatic event, Frozen plays for a limited season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, from February 9th to May 5th 2018, with a press night on February 21st 2018.
