After a sell-out run at the Almeida Theatre, James Graham's Ink, makes its much anticipated transfer to the West End this September. Stars Bertie Carvel and Richard Coyle reprise their critically acclaimed roles in the new production, running for a limited season at the Duke of York's Theatre from September.
James Graham’s explosive new play Ink arrives in the West End this September. After tickets sold-out for their season at the Almeida Theatre, the thrilling account of Rupert Murdoch’s purchase of The Sun Newspaper will play at the Duke of York's Theatre from September.
Graham's dark and insightful play follows the true story of Rupert Murdoch's purchase of The Sun newspaper in 1969, a failing broadsheet at the time. Enlisting the help of Larry Lamb as the paper’s incisive editor, Murdoch and Lamb set about crafting creating a publication for the masses that would send ripples through the world of journalism for decades to come.
Reprising their celebrated roles for the production are stars Bertie Carvel as Rupert Murdoch and Richard Coyle as Larry Lamb. Bertie Carvel is an Olivier Award winning actor, receiving the accolade for his iconic 2008 performance of Miss Trunchbull in Tim Minchin’s musical Matilda.
Richard Coyle has extensive screen credits, appearing in films such as Going Postal and Georgia, as well as a recent stint on NBC series Crossbones. The pair play alongside an incredible ensemble, including Oliver Birch, Rachel Caffrey, Pearl Chanda, Geoffrey Freshwater, Jack Holden, Justin Salinger, David Schofield, Sophie Stanton, Tim Seed, Tony Turner and Rene Zagger.
The transfer will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, with Rupert Goold directing. The company's recent smash-hit adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet starring Andrew Scott playing at the Harold Pinter Theatre.
Playwright James Graham’s previous work includes This House, the critically acclaimed production followes the machinations of the 1974 general election and subsequent hung Parliament.
