Simon Russell Beale in Ibsen’s black comedy

Simon Russell Beale returns to the stage in the towering role of disgraced entrepreneur John Gabriel Borkman, as the Bridge Theatre stages an exciting new version of the classic play.

John Gabriel Borkman is the tale of a man who has fallen from great success to a prison sentence for fraud. As he paces one of his upstairs rooms, brooding over his ruined reputation, his estranged wife Gunhild plots downstairs. Both determined to restore the family name, the arrival of Gunhild’s sister suddenly opens old wounds.

John Gabriel Borkman is one of Henrik Ibsen’s later plays, with a fantastic streak of dark comedy at its heart. At the Bridge Theatre, it is translated in a new version by Lucinda Coxon (The Danish Girl) and directed by Olivier Award winner Nicholas Hytner (The History Boys).

The John Gabriel Borkman London cast includes Simon Russell Beale (The Lehman Trilogy) in the title role, Clare Higgins (National Theatre: Sweet Bird of Youth) as Gunhild Borkman, and Lia Williams (Donmar Warehouse: The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie) as Ella Rentheim.

Enjoy a blackly comic classic performed by some of the UK’s best actors with John Gabriel Borkman tickets this year.
