Bringing the Carnival to the West End

From a rainbow of sequins and feathers to the pulsating rhythms of Soca, this new play is bringing the passion and history of the Notting Hill Carnival to the West End. Yasmin Joseph's debut play, J'Ouvert, is a powerful and timely reflection of the British black experience

J'Ouvert follows two best friends, Jade and Nadine, as they fight for their space in the world and battle to preserve tradition in a society where women's bodies are frequently under threat.

The play is one of several transferring to the West End as part of producer Sonia Friedman and director Ian Rickson's ReEmerge season at the Harold Pinter Theatre from May.

J'Ouvert premiered at Theatre503 in 2019 and was the recipient of the 2020 James Tait Black Prize for Drama. Joseph was also nominated for the Evening Standard's Most Promising Playwright Award.

A fearless, funny and vibrant play that speaks to modern audiences, J'Ouvert tickets transport audiences to the bustling sounds and sights of the Notting Hill Carnival.
