Puccini’s unforgettable tragic love story
Jonathan Miller’s classic production of La bohème returns to the London Coliseum, offering audiences another chance to enjoy this acclaimed staging of Puccini’s tale of love and heartbreak in bohemian Paris.Inspired by Henri Murger’s 1851 novel Scènes de la vie de bohème, the opera follows a tragic love story between Mimì and artist Rodolfo. Residing in the Latin Quarter of Paris with their artist friends, the couple scrape by, until a tragic illness tears them apart.
Jonathan Miller’s classic production relocates the opera from the 1840s to the 1930s, and is inspired by Brassaï’s photographs of Paris and Parisians at the time. For the English National Opera, Puccini’s moving, heartbreaking score is conducted by Ben Glassberg.
Casting includes Sinead Campbell-Wallace and Nadine Benjamin, sharing the role of Mimì, David Junghoon Kim as Rodolfo, Louise Alder as Musetta and Charles Rice as Marcello.
