Who wrote The Lion King musical?

The Lion King is based on Disney's award-winning film of the same name. The musical's book is by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi, who worked on the film as a co-director and screenwriter respectively. Tim Rice and Elton John wrote the show's music and lyrics, including the hit songs "Circle of Life" and "Hakuna Matata".

There are over 50 cast members in the West End production, including a number of child performers in the roles of young Simba and young Nala. Some of the cast have been in The Lion King for many years, including Shaun Escoffery and George Asprey, who have performed as Mufasa and Scar since 2008.

The production first opened at the Lyceum Theatre on 19 October 1999, and is one of the longest-running West End musicals.
