Celebrated English playwright Mike Bartlett’s Love, Love, Love is to be revived at the Lyric Hammersmith in early 2020, following on from its critically acclaimed West End premiere at the Royal Court in 2012.

In 1967, The Beatles are performing All You Need is Love on TV for the very first time, and Kenneth and Sandra are meeting. Bartlett’s character exploration follows the couple for the next forty years, charting their journey from the free love of the 1960s to the oppressive retirement years they come to at the beginning of the 20th century. Kenneth and Sandra raised their children through increasing national prosperity, always looking towards a bright future, but it hasn’t quite worked out as they hoped; the children they believe they have done everything for think they haven’t done enough, and the family are starting to go to war over their personal politics.
Casting for Love, Love, Love at the Lyric Hammersmith includes Olivier Award nominee Rachael Stirling (An Ideal Husband) as Sandra, Nicholas Burns (Measure for Measure) as Kenneth and Patrick Knowles as Henry.
Mike Bartlett is a celebrated writer for theatre, television and film. His theatrical writing is multi-award winning; amongst many others, Love, Love, Love won the TMA Best New Play Award in 2011 and King Charles III won the Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Play in 2015. In television, he is best known for BBC drama Doctor Foster, which was acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. This new production of Love, Love, Love is to be directed by the Lyric Hammersmith’s current artistic director, Rachel O’Riordan.
A funny yet withering take on the opposing values of two generations, Love, Love, Love opens at the Lyric Hammersmith on 5 March 2020.
