    London Coliseum

Tony-Award-scooping musical Man of La Mancha makes its home at the London Coliseum for a strictly limited run. Starring Kelsey Grammer and Danielle de Niese, this semi-staged concert production tells the enigmatic tale of a man fighting to keep his unfinished novel, set during the Spanish Inquisition.

Man of La Mancha is treated to its first revival in more than 50 years in a new production at the London Coliseum. The Tony-Award-scooping musical is inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote and is set at the time of the Spanish Inquisition, featuring the classic song "Dream the Impossible Dream". Multi-award winning actor Kelsey Grammer stars alongside opera star Danielle de Niese, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Cassidy Janson and Peter Polycarpou in this semi-staged concert production. Directed by Lonny Price, the show is presented by Michael Linnit and Michael Grade in collaboration with English National Opera.

This is the tale of Miguel de Cervantes, a failing playwright, poet and tax collector who dares to tax a monastery and is duly thrown in jail by the Spanish Inquisition for his troubles. As he awaits his trial, the poor fellow is dragged before a makeshift court of his fellow prisoners, a grim collection of cutthroats and thieves who plan to confiscate the few possessions he has with him. One of these happens to be his incomplete novel; ‘Don Quixote’ is its title. In order to save his treasured manuscript, Cervantes proposes to defend himself through entertainment, and so ensues the story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, setting out to right wrongs and banish evil.

Man of La Mancha was written by the American playwright Dale Wasserman. The music was composed by American musical theatre composer and producer Mitch Leigh and the lyrics were written by American musical theatre lyricist Joe Darion.

Kelsey Grammer is probably best known for his role as Dr Frasier Crane in the NBC sitcoms Cheers and spin-off Frasier. He counts several Primetime Emmy Awards and Globe Awards as well as a Tony Award to his name. His theatre credits include Big Fish, Finding Neverland and My Fair Lady.

Nicholas Lyndhurst plays the Innkeeper and the Captain. The BAFTA-winning actor is famous for his starring role in the TV series Only Fools and Horses.

Soprano Danielle de Niese performs alongside Grammer as Aldonza and Dulcinea, marking her West End debut. She has starred in a range of operas including The Merry Widow, Don Pasquale and Bel Canto.

She shares the role with West End star Cassidy Janson. No stranger to the London stage, her last appearance was in the musical Chess in 2018, also at the Coliseum.

Peter Polycarpou performs the role of Don Quixote’s squire, Sancho Panza. Polycarpou's past stage appearances include Les Miserables and Oliver!

Director Lonny Price's recent credits span Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill and Sunset Boulevard.

Chivalry, knighthood, adventure and love: it’s all here. This play within a play is one of the most enduring pieces of musical theatre out there. Find out why that is when Man of La Mancha arrives at London Coliseum from 26 April 2019 for a strictly limited six-week run.
