Set in 1950’s Apartheid South Africa, Master Harold and the boys is Athol Fugard’s semi-autobiographical masterwork. On a rainy afternoon at St George's Park Tea Room, we meet employees Sam and Willie as they practise their steps for the finals of the ballroom dancing championship. When their unlikely best friend Hally, son of the tea room owners, returns from school, both are thrilled, but the overwhelming reality hangs over them all; he’s Master Harold, and they are the boys.
