    Sadler's Wells

The mythical monster with snakes for hair that has the power to turn men to stone is reclaimed in this powerful, new work from Jasmin Vardimon Company. It examines the idea of reflection, gender and the precarious state of the world's oceans on stage at Sadler's Wells.

The Jasmin Vardimon Company celebrate their 20th birthday this year with a brand new production inspired by Greek mythology and feminine power. Medusa tours the UK this autumn, before coming to Sadler’s Wells for a strictly limited number of performances.

Founded in 1997, the Jasmin Vardimon Company is run by Vardimon to create dance that incorporates physical theatre, text and technology. The company create their own work, as well as run an education programme and tour nationally and internationally. Vardimon is known for her unique style of choreography incorporating a range of influences from her life on a Kibbutz in Israel to classical literature.

Vardimon’s production of Medusa explores the role of a historical woman of power and the notions of reflection that are associated with the creature who turned men to stone if they looked her in the eye. As she deconstructs the myth, she looks at both the past and future of Medusa and her relationship with the earth and how the environment is changing.

This dance was developed on the Spanish coast and draws additional influence from the aquatic life that lives there. This diverse collection of influences is sure to make for a fascinating dance piece in Vardimon’s distinctive style, playing a limited run at London's Sadler's Wells from 22 October to 24 October 2018.
