Studio Ghibli’s magical story on stage

Enter the magical world of classic Studio Ghibli film My Neighbour Totoro as it is transformed into a stunning new stage production, premiering at the Barbican Theatre this year.

My Neighbour Totoro follows Satsuki and Mei, who move with their father to be closer to their sick mother whilst she is receiving treatment. Over one incredible summer, the sisters befriend a series of spirits in the woodlands, including the larger-than-life forest protector Totoro.

Hayao Miyazaki’s’s 1988 film has delighted audiences with its whimsical, heartwarming coming-of-age story for decades. it is now brought to the stage in a ground-breaking new production from the Royal Shakespeare Company (Matilda the Musical) and composer Joe Hisaishi, which combines puppetry (from Basil Twist, built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop), music and storytelling.

The film’s original score, by Hisaishi, will be performed live each night alongside new orchestrations by Will Stuart.
