Apollo Theatre

After a successful run at the Donmar Warehouse, the 1994 play My Night With Reg comes to the Apollo Theatre in 2015. Following the gay community in 1980s London, the show is a moving tale of life, friendship and love at the peak of the AIDS crisis.

Following a critically acclaimed, sell-out run at the Donmar Warehouse, Kevin Elyot’s My Night With Reg transfers to the Apollo Theatre London for a limited run from January to April 2015.

First staged in 1994 at the Royal Court, it became an instant classic. Set in the 1980’s gay community in London, the play is a tale of friendship, love and loss that is refreshingly comic and moving.

Told in three scenes that span over three years, the action takes place in Guy’s London flat, opening with a 1985 summer party where old and new friends have gathered. Guy is a lonely man who harbours a secret crush for his friend John. “Reg” is constantly discussed throughout the play and although he never appears, we learn a lot about the character and his promiscuity. My Night With Reg follows this group of friends as they experience high times and low times as they face an escalating AIDS crisis. It results in a bittersweet story that perfectly captures the fragility of life and happiness.

After the premiere, the production received Olivier and Evening Standard Awards, and director Robert Hastie’s revival at the Donmar was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Play Revival in 2015. My Night With Reg featured design by Peter Mckintosh, lighting design by Paul Pyant and sound design by Gregory Clarke. The 2015 transfer to the Apollo included all of the original Donmar cast, with Matt Bardock, Jonathan Broadbent, Richard Cant, Julian Ovenden, Lewis Reeves and Geoffrey Streatfeild. My Night With Reg is a revival of a classic comedy that greatly encapsulates modern British Theatre. The show will run at the Apollo Theatre from January 17th to April 11th 2015.
