Theatre Royal Haymarket

Big Laughs With Noises Off Tickets

Get ready for chaos on and off the stage with Michael Frayn’s sublime Noises Off at Theatre Royal Haymarket, starring Felicity Kendal. Your funny bones will be thoroughly tickled by Lyndsay Posner’s triumphant 40th anniversary production, as this backstage farce exposes the trials and tribulations of a shambolic theatre company. The jokes, surprises and cringe-worthy mishaps come at breakneck speed, making this one of the funniest nights out in London!

What is Noises Off about?

This riotous show delivers two plays for the price of one, as we watch the backstage antics of a theatre company putting on brand new farce Nothing On. The final rehearsals are a mess, opening night in Weston-Super-Mare is a nightmare, and the less said about the matinee in Ashton-Under-Lyme the better! Every mishap is brilliantly played out to full comic effect, complete with slapstick comedy, witty wordplay and tempestuous tempers as the final, calamitous performance in Stockton-on-Tees gets underway.

Considered by many to be one of the funniest plays ever written, Noises Off is “guaranteed to leave an audience breathless with laughter” (Evening Standard) as it hurtles towards its chaotic conclusion.

The Noises Off Cast

Felicity Kendal (The Good Life) stars as Dotty, alongside Jonathan Coy as Frederick Fellows and Alexander Hanson as Lloyd Dallas. Kendal has appeared in director Lyndsey Posner’s 40th-anniversary production since its premiere at Theatre Royal Bath in 2022.

The full cast of Noises Off in the West End is to be confirmed.

Who wrote Noises Off?

Noises Off is the comic jewel in playwright Michael Frayn’s crown. His works include the dramatic plays Copenhagen and Democracy, and novels Spies, Headlong and Toward the End of the Morning, but it is this slapstick backstage delight that has remained a firm audience favourite for over 40 years.

Frayn was inspired to write Noises Off as he watched his earlier farce, The Two Of Us, from the wings in 1970. He was so taken by how much funnier it was from behind that he decided an entire play dedicated to bringing the backstage to centre stage, warts and all, would be a winning new project.

Noises Off has been a resounding success ever since, winning the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play and heading over to Broadway in 1983. It has been revived countless times with a huge number of famous actors relishing the topsy-turvy mayhem of its plot, and is even said to have inspired The Play That Goes Wrong!
