After a critically acclaimed season at Chichester Festival Theatre, James Graham’s satirical play Quiz transfers to the West End to play a limited season at the Noel Coward Theatre. Directed by Daniel Evans, the play takes a close look at the infamous coughing scandal on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, as Charles Ingram cheated his way to the top prize.
James Graham’s smash-hit, critically acclaimed new play Quiz transfers to the West End, after a five-star run at Chichester Festival Theatre. Following Graham’s recent London successes, which have included Ink and Labour of Love, Quiz is a brand new style of show, which sees a gameshow-meet-theatre concept introduced.
Quiz is based on the infamous 2001 coughing scandal on Chris Tarrant’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, which saw contestant Charles Ingram cheat his way to the top of the much-loved quiz show. As he got closer to winning the elusive one million pounds, his wife Diana assisted in coughing to signal the correct and incorrect answers. But what were the consequences, and why did they do it? Graham’s play explores Britain’s bizarre love for a good gameshow.
Casting for the production includes original Chichester cast Gavin Spokes (Carousel, Guys and Dolls) as Charles Ingram, Keir Charles (The Lottery of Love, A Christmas Carol) as Chris Tarrant and Stephanie Street as Diana Ingram, alongside Greg Haiste, Mark Meadows, Henry Pettigrew, Jay Villiers, Lizzie Winkler, Sarah Woodward and Sharon Ballard.
Artistic Director of Chichester Daniel Evans directs, with recent hit shows including Show Boat, which transferred to the New London Theatre and Flowers for Mrs Harris. Creatives include choreographer Naomi Said and designer Robert Jones, with lighting by Tim Lutkin, sound by Ben and Max Ringham and video design by Tim Reid.
