    About the Rebecca Musical

When wealthy widower Maxim de Winter meets a young woman in Monte Carlo, they soon marry and return to his Cornish estate, where the resentful housekeeper Mrs Danvers waits. Faced with endless stories of Maxim’s glamorous first wife Rebecca, who died in a tragic accident, the shadows of the past threaten to suffocate the new Mrs de Winter’s future.

A Beloved Classic Brought to the Stage

Rebecca has long captured our imaginations, and was immortalised on screen in Alfred Hitchcock’s incredible film adaptation. The gothic themes, atmospheric descriptions and bold characters seemed destined to flourish on stage, and in 2006 a German-language musical premiered at Raimund Theatre in Vienna. It has remained very popular on the continent since this initial three-year run, and has been seen by audiences in several countries including Sweden, Finland, Germany, Serbia and Hungary.

Christopher Hampton’s English-language adaptation has been workshopped several times over the last decade. It most famously went on sale on Broadway in 2013, before being cancelled. London audiences now have the chance to be the first to experience Rebecca in the UK.
