This pulsating production makes the words and rhymes of the starcrossed lovers feel more urgent and contemporary than ever, with superstar Holland taking to the stage as lovesick Romeo. Playing for a limited season this summer, don’t wait to book for this must-see event at the Duke of York’s Theatre.

What is Romeo & Juliet about?

One of literature’s most famous love stories is a devastating tale of warring families who put pride above their children’s wellbeing. When Romeo meets Juliet at a party, the idealistic young man believes it is love at first sight. What does it matter that he is a Montague and she is a Capulet? Their parents’ grudges aren’t hereditary, and soon the pair are meeting in secret and planning to run away together. Tragedy isn’t far behind, however, and their blooming relationship has a heartwrenching end.

Tom Holland in Romeo & Juliet

Fresh from wowing audiences in the massively successful Spider-Man franchise, Tom Holland returns to the West End as romantic, doomed Romeo. Holland previously starred in Billy Elliot before catapulting into Hollywood stardom, and this is a fantastic opportunity to see his acting up close.

The cast also features Francesca Amewudah-Rivers (School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play) as Juliet, Freema Agyeman as Nurse, Michael Balogun as Friar, Tomiwa Edun as Capulet, Mia Jerome as Montague, Daniel Quinn-Toye as Paris, Ray Sesay as Tybalt, Nima Taleghani as Benvolio, Joshua-Alexander Williams as Mercutio, and Callum Heinrich and Kody Mortimer as Camera Operators.

Multi-award-winning director Jamie Lloyd brings his flair for accessible and fresh takes on the classics, fronted by the biggest faces in film and television, to the most famous love story of all time. Lloyd has previously directed Tom Hiddleston in Pinter’s Betrayal, James McAvoy in Cyrano de Bergerac, Emilia Clarke in The Seagull and most recently Nicole Scherzinger in one of the year’s most talked about shows, Sunset Boulevard.
