    Old Vic Theatre

Andrew Scott stars in a celebratory revival of Simon Stephens’ Sea Wall, playing a strictly limited two-week season at the Old Vic as part of the theatre’s 200th anniversary proceedings. A striking one-man play about family, fears, happiness and beliefs, this critically-acclaimed short play was last seen in Dublin in 2015.

First staged in 2008 at the Bush Theatre, Simon Stephen’s one-man short play Sea Wall is regularly revived on stages across the country. Most notably performed by Andrew Scott at the National Theatre in 2013, Scott now reprises the role at London’s Old Vic as part of the theatre’s 200th anniversary celebrations.

Alex is on a family holiday in France with his wife and daughter to visit his father. As often happens on these kinds of trips, Alex and his father argue. Atheism and faith is a divisive topic at the best of times, but amongst family it can have devastating consequences, especially when considered alongside the endless depths of the sea.

Multi-award-winning, Dublin-born actor Andrew Scott reprises his part in a role written specially for him. Best-known for playing Moriarty in the BBC’s Sherlock, Scott also has extensive theatre and film credits, including Birdland, The Dazzle, Dublin Carol, Longitude and Band of Brothers.

Sea Wall is written by playwright Simon Stephens, whose credits include Punk Rock, the National Theatre’s smash-hit production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and the recently performed Heisenberg: The Uncertainty Principle. He is as associate of the Royal Court and Lyric Hammersmith, and his plays are produced around the world. George Perrin, the joint Artistic Director of Paines Plough, directs the production.

A striking one-man play with themes of family, beliefs, fears and the ever-increasing weight of everyday life, the critically-acclaimed production returns to the Old Vic as part of the bicentenary celebrations. Sea Wall plays at the London venue from 18 June to 30 June 2018.
