South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone join forces with Avenue Q’s Robert Lopez for controversial hit The Book of Mormon, which promises to outrage and entertain in equal measure at the Prince of Wales Theatre. What is The Book of Mormon about?

The Book of Mormon plot centres on two Mormon missionaries, Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, who are sent to war-torn Uganda for their two-year mission to bring new people into their church. They find the poverty-stricken local populace to be very angry with God, with a hilariously vulgar song to express it! With a warlord causing atrocities and a temporary home far from the sunny Florida that they hoped for, the pair will need to draw on all their faith and truly “man up” to face the challenges presented to them.

The now familiar The Book of Mormon musical score includes stand-out songs “Hello”, “I Believe" and “Baptize Me”, performed by a talented ensemble cast who ensure the laughs keep flowing.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park and outrageous comedy films such as BASEketball and Cannibal! The Musical paired up with Robert Lopez, co-creator of Avenue Q and one of the songwriters on Frozen to write the book, songs and lyrics for the show.

Parker and Stone grew up in Colorado, where they encountered the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and its members often and have made references to the faith in many of their other works. The story of The Book of Mormon is told in Parker and Stone’s trademark, in-your-face style with no shortage of vulgarity and crass humour, but also shows a warmth for the Church and is much more a satirical satire than a damning parody.

Who is in The Book of Mormon London cast?

The West End cast includes Dom Simpson as Elder Price, Conner Peirson as Elder Cunningham, Leanne Robinson as Nabulungi, Steven Webb as Elder McKinley, Richard Lloyd King as Mafala Hatimbi and Edward Baruwa as the General. The cast also features a large ensemble who play missionaries, Ugandan locals and other roles throughout the show.
