Brecht’s classic play celebrates 80 years

What is the cost of being good? Find out in The Good Person of Szechwan at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, as Bertolt Brecht’s classic play is brought up to date in an exciting new production.

In a busy modern city where it’s easy to be anonymous, Shen Te is just trying to get by. When three gods reward her with a life-changing amount of money, Shen Te decides to open a tobacco shop and finally enjoy a stable life. But soon, she begins questioning the cost of survival, and the place of deceitful scheming in a capitalist metropolis.

German playwright Brecht’s The Good Person of Szechwan celebrates its 80th anniversary with a brand new version by Nina Segal (In The Night Time (Before The Sun Rises) and directed by Anthony Lau (The Shadow Factory). It is co-produced with Sheffield Theatres and the English Touring Theatre.

The Good Person of Szechwan London cast includes Ami Tredrea (Shen Te), Callum Coates (First God), Tim Samuels (Second God) and Nick Blakeley (Third God).
