The King and I Tickets

London Palladium

Kelli O’Hara and Ken Watanabe reprise their roles in a revival of Bartlett Sher’s Tony Award-winning production of classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The King and I. Playing for a limited season at the London Palladium, the Broadway classic features an iconic score including numbers such as “Getting to Know You” and “Shall We Dance?”.

Broadway’s critically acclaimed 2015 production of The King and I starring Kelli O’Hara and Ken Watanabe arrives at the London Palladium for a limited engagement in June 2018. The Tony Award-winning production is directed by Bartlett Sher, who most recently helmed the acclaimed smash-hit Oslo at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

First opening on Broadway in 1951, the now classic musical was an immediate success, winning 3 Tony Awards at the time. The King and I tells the story of a surprising romance between British teacher Anna and the King of Siam in 1860’s Bangkok.

The King and I last graced the London Palladium stage in 2000, starring Elaine Page in the role of Anna. The 2018 revival marks the 65th anniversary of the musical’s first London run at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and will be the third time that the show runs at the London Palladium.

Based on the 1944 novel by Margaret Landon, Anna and the King of Siam, the stage adaptation is the fifth collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Some of the show’s most well-known numbers include “Something Wonderful”, “I Whistle a Happy Tune”, “I Have Dreamed” and “Shall We Dance?”

Kelli O’Hara reprises her role as Anna, which secured her the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical, as well as nominations for the Outer Critics Award and Drama League Award in 2015. Japanese actor Ken Watanabe made his Broadway debut as the King of Siam, and was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical at the Tony Awards. Watanabe is best known for his Hollywood films including Batman Begins and Inception.

Further casting includes Ruthie Ann Miles as Lady Thiang, Dean John-Wilson as Lun Tha, Na-Young Jeon as Tuptim, Takao Osawa as The Kralahome, Jon Chew as Prince Chulalongkorn, Edward Baker-Duly as Sir Edward Ramsay and Captain Orton, and Annalene Beechey.

Ensemble members include Kamm Kunaree, Jacqui Sanchez, Miiya Alexandra, Ena Yamaguchi, Ela Lisondra, Aiko Kato, Lily Wang, Yuki Abe, Saori Oda, Misa Koide, William Mychael Lee, Alistair So, Arthur Lee, Jorge Sprangers, Jonathan Caguioa, Cletus Chan, Jesse Milligan, Nick Len, Steven Hardcastle, Nicholas Li, Rachel Jayne-Picar and Jasmine Leung.

Directed by Bartlett Sher, the musical features set design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald Holder and sound design by Scott Legrer, with choreography by Christopher Gattelli based on the original choreography by Jerome Robbins.

Playing a limited engagement at the London Palladium from 21 June to 29 September 2018, with a press night on 3 July 2018, this production of The King and I is sure to be one of the summer’s biggest openings.
