Who wrote The Magic Flute?
The Magic Flute was written by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with a libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder.Mozart is known as one of the most gifted classical composers to ever live, and a child prodigy. The Magic Flute premiered in 1791, not long before his death, and marked the end of an illustrious and breathtaking career. His more than 800 works across various genres included the operas Cosi fan tutte and The Marriage of Figaro.
The Magic Flute is written in German singspiel form, which means it has both sung elements and spoken dialogue. Singspiels are traditionally influenced by folk tales, magic, myths and stories of good versus evil - which matches Mozart’s opera almost perfectly.
