One of the world’s most famous ballets and a firm Christmas family favourite, the English National Ballet’s Nutcracker returned to the London Coliseum from the 14th December 2016 and ran over Christmas, making it the perfect festive delight no matter what your age is.

The English National Ballet’s acclaimed production of Nutcracker returned to the London Coliseum this Christmas, in an utterly enchanting ballet that was perfect for all the family.

Over 100 of the world’s best dancers and musicians brought the classic ballet to life, with beautiful dancing, exquisite sets and Tchaikovsky’s incredible and unforgettable score performed live.

Set on a glistening Christmas Eve in a frosty Edwardian London, Clara and her magical Nutcracker doll find an enchanting world, where she fights with the Mouse King and discovers a good looking stranger. As it begins to get more freezing, Clara and her brave Nutcracker doll, journey in a hot air balloon across the London sky towards the sparkling Land of Snow, where her journey really begins.

The English National Ballet’s Nutcracker is an entirely unforgettable Christmas treat, from the moment you hear the noise of the orchestra tuning up their instruments, all the way up until the ending cheers and bows, this is perfect festive outing.

The English National Ballet’s production had toured around the UK, before performing in the beautiful London Coliseum, where it played to over 73,000 audience members of all ages.

This production had received glowing reviews in previous years, including 5 stars from the Daily Telegraph, who described it as ‘dazzling’, while The Guardian described it as ‘Christmas-card perfect’ and The Daily Express stated that ‘This is now a contender as one of the best Nutcrackers around’.

The English National Ballet’s Nutcracker was choreographed by Wayne Eagling and was based on a concept by Toer van Schayk and Wayne Eagling, with design by Peter Farmer and Lighting by David Richardson.

The Nutcracker was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, set to Tchaikovsky’s famous score. It is an adaptation of the E. T. A. Hoffmann story titled The Nutcracker and the Mouse King which in turn was adapted into Alexander Dumas’ story The Nutcracker. The ballet had its premiere in St Petersburg in December 1892 and over the 20th century has become established as an unforgettable Christmas classic.

The English National Ballet’s Nutcracker was one of the greatest stage highlights of Christmas 2016, and opened at the London Coliseum on 14th December 2016, with performances having continued over Christmas until 7th January 2017.
