Regularly performed around the world, The Seagull is Chekhov’s well-known play, following the lives of a family who come together during the summer. Whilst Konstantin develops a new play to star his muse, Nina, Irina Arkadina discovers that the world is quickly changing around her. Switching between the overt and profound, the play is a tragic, beautiful and epic story.

Multi-award winning actress Lesley Sharp stars as Irina Arkadina, with her most recent stage credits including A Taste of Honey at the National Theatre and Ingredient X at the Royal Court. In 1992, Sharp was nominated for an Olivier Award for her performance in Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. Sharp is best known for her screen appearances in Vera Drake, Scott and Bailey and Afterlife.

Artistic Director Simon Holmes leads the production, which features design by Hyemi Shin, lighting design by Anna Watson and sound design by Pete Malkin. Simon Stephens (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) adapts the play from Helen Rappaport’s literal translation.

The Seagull is the ultimate tale of unrequited love and creative jealousy culminating under one roof. An explosive, tragic and captivating story, the Lyric Hammersmith’s dynamic new production plays a limited winter season.
