Kenneth MacMillan’s revered production of The Sleeping Beauty dances into the London Coliseum for a limited number of performances. A bewitching fairytale that sees the beautiful Princess Aurora cursed by the jealous Fairy Carabosse, the visually stunning ballet is set against Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous score. Coinciding with the anniversary of MacMillan’s death, the production features his dazzling original choreography and an acclaimed cast.
A bewitching and dark fairytale that is well-known across the world, The Sleeping Beauty sees the beautiful Princess Aurora cursed by the jealous, malevolent Fairy Carabosse. After she pricks her finger on a spinning wheel on her 16th birthday, Aurora is doomed to slumber for a century until a Prince’s sweet kiss can awaken her. But will he get there in time?
Renowned choreographer Kenneth MacMillan passed away in 1992, leaving behind a legacy of productions from his time as Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer of the Royal Ballet, including Anastasia, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake and Song of the Earth, which is to be revived at the London Coliseum prior to The Sleeping Beauty.
The production is set against a sumptuous score by Tchaikovsky, played live by the stunning English National Ballet Philharmonic. The Sleeping Beauty features design by Peter Farmer, with costume design by Nicholas Georgiadis.
Showcasing MacMillan’s dazzling original choreography, The Sleeping Beauty is one of the English National Ballet’s most popular productions, performed regularly by the company. Including a stellar cast of world-class performers, the show is a masterclass in dance, featuring renowned sequences that have become staples in the world of ballet.
Playing a strictly limited number of performances at the London Coliseum, The Sleeping Beauty runs in the West End from 6th to 16th June 2018.
