David Wood’s Olivier Award-nominated stage adaptation of Judith Kerr’s ever-popular picture book The Tiger Who Came to Tea returns to the London stage for a special summer season. Playing at the Piccadilly Theatre, the hilarious and fun play is based on the well-known story of a very hungry tiger!

Sophie and her Mum are just about to sit down for tea when the doorbell rings. On answering it, they find an entirely unexpected guest – a tiger! David Wood’s magical stage adaptation of The Tiger Who Came to Tea returns to the West End this summer to celebrate its 10th anniversary on stage, and 50 years of Judith Kerr’s beloved children’s book on which the show is based.

When the doorbell rings, Sophie and her Mum wonder who could be there. It can’t be the milkman, it can’t be the grocer, and it certainly can’t be Daddy – so who could it be? Upon opening the door and discovering the tiger outside, chaos quickly ensues in this hugely funny tale of mealtime mayhem.

Packed full of interactive songs, music, adventure and plenty of laughter, The Tiger Who Came to Tea sees Sophie and her Mum welcome in a hungry tiger who eats and drinks everything in the house! With it quickly becoming clear that his appetite is insatiable, the pair wonder what Daddy will think when he comes home and there’s no food left!

David Wood’s writes and directs the play. His adaptation of the original children’s book has an enduring legacy in the West End and beyond, touring the country regularly since its premiere 10 years ago. Further original works and adaptations for the stage include The Gingerbread Man, The BFG and The Witches, as well as the Olivier Award-winning production Goodnight Mister Tom.

Creative team for the production includes choreographer Emma Clayton, designer Susie Caulcott and lighting designer Tony Simpson, with sound design by Shock Productions.

An enchanting, magical production that is guaranteed to capture the imaginations of little ones and their families, The Tiger Who Came to Tea plays a strictly limited summer season at the Piccadilly Theatre London, from 28 June to 1 September 2018.
