Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony and Olivier-Award nominated musical, The Woman in White, gets its first London revival this November. This romantic Victorian thriller will be led by acclaimed emergent director Thom Southerland, playing a limited run at the Charring Cross Theatre this winter.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony and Olivier-Award nominated musical, The Woman in White, returns to the West End this winter. Adapted from Wilkie Collins’ haunting Victorian thriller this emotive, spine-tingling musical will debut Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel’s exciting revised score for the piece, playing a limited run at the Charring Cross Theatre from November.
The story follows Walter Hartright, whose life is changed by a chance encounter with a mysterious woman clothed in white, frantic to reveal a disturbing secret. Soon Walter takes up work as a drawing master to Laura Fairlie and her half-sister Marian.
Walter begins to fall for the beautiful Laura but a chilling intrigue falls upon him as he detects the likeness of the peculiar woman in white in Laura’s face. The two’s burgeoning romance is upset by her engagement to the sinister Sir Percival Glyde. There begins exhilarating race to find the truth of the clandestine connection between Laura, Sir Percival, and the woman in white.
First premiering at the Palace Theatre in 2004, The Woman in White, opened to critical acclaim. The show now returns under the helm of rising directorial star Thom Southerland (Allegro Southwark Playhouse, Titanic at Charing Cross Theatre).
Casting includes Anna O'Byrne (The Phantom of the Opera) as Laura Fairlie, alongside Chris Peluso (Miss Saigon, Death Takes a Holiday) as Sir Percival Glyde. Further casting includes Carolyn Maitland (Ghost) as Marian, Ashley Stillburn as Walter Hartright, Greg Castiglioni as Count Fosco and Sophie Reeves as Anne.
Nominated for three consecutive Evening Standard Awards (Best Production and Best Newcomer, Mack & Mabel and Parade) Southerland’s exciting revival reunites him with set designer Morgan Large, costume designer Jonathan Lipman and sound designer Andrew Johnson, further featuring lighting design from Rick Fisher.
