Vaudeville Theatre

Jenny Seagrove stars in a revival of Noel Coward’s rarely performed drama Volcano at the Vaudeville Theatre London. Never before performed in Coward’s lifetime, this production directed by Roy Marsden is the play’s first major revival since it was written. Following a recently widowed woman on an island, the arrival of a suave and mysterious guests sets the island’s resident’s hearts fluttering.

Never before performed in Noel Coward’s lifetime, his scandalous play Volcano receives a revival at London’s Vaudeville Theatre. Opening at the West End venue for a limited run beginning August 14th, this rarely-performed production gives a hugely interesting insight into the glamour of an island lifestyle which Coward would enjoy himself.

Set in Volcano, a recently widowed Adela Shelly finds herself being seduced by a suave and irresistible Guy Littleton, a mysterious visitor to her elegant house on the island. When Guy’s acid-tongued, suspicious wife Melissa appears to fend off the competition, she has not yet thought that Adela’s best friends, Ellen, might also be falling for her husband’s charms. As tensions begin to build, emotions run high and threaten to boil over, as does the island’s volcano. Soon, a terrifying eruption of explosive consequences hits the island.

Volcano stars Jenny Seagrove as Adela, after most recently appearing in A Daughter’s a Daughter, The Country Girl and Bedroom Farce and being well-known for her role in Judge John Deed. Further cast members include Dawn Steele, Jason Durr, Finty Williams, Perdita Avery, Robin Sebastian and Tim Daish.

Directed by Roy Marsden, who also directed Seagrove in A Daughter’s a Daughter at Trafalgar Studios, Volcano is the first major production of the Coward classic to be staged. For a limited time only, the production plays at the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre from August 14th to September 29th 2012.
