About the show
Workshopped and rehearsed from McGregor’s own studio in the heart of London’s technology and media centre Here East, Autobiography at stunning collision between history, art and science.
This bold, intimate collaboration sees the artist allow world-leading geneticists to sequence his entire genome, aiming to excavate the fundamental building blocks of his personal history. The performances combines elements of memoir, documentary and genetic analysis, filtered through the lens of human imagination.
The result is a breathtaking, visual quest into the artist’s ancestral past, which explores identity and biological legacy.
McGregor is supported by an incredible creative team, including set design by Hackney-based artist and designer Ben Cullen Williams whose clients include The Serpentine Gallery, Calvin Klein and Erdem.
Music for the production is composed by Chicago based electronic musician Jlin, whose debut album, “Dark Energy”, was released in 2015 to critical acclaim. Lighting is provided by McGregor’s long-standing collaborator and award-winning lighting designer Lucy Carter.
This progressive and exhilarating production plays a limited run at Sadler’s Wells from the 4th to 7th of October 2017.
