Wicked Tickets - A Spellbinding Journey to Oz

Wicked is the smash-hit musical that has been casting its magical spell over the Apollo Victoria Theatre since 2006. “One of the most successful musicals of all time” (BBC News) and the winner of more than 100 awards worldwide including three Tony Awards and a Grammy Award, it is the 11th longest-running production in West End history.

Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s must-see musical phenomenon, based on Gregory Maguire’s acclaimed novel, reveals the untold story of how the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good fulfilled their destinies. Discover a beguiling backstory and future possibilities for the characters from L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in this visually stunning musical.

Backed by an unforgettable score, including modern musical theatre staples such as "Defying Gravity" and "The Wizard and I", find out why it is “London’s #1 show” (LBC) and book tickets now.

What is Wicked the musical about?

The story serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that explores the origins of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch. Starting years before Dorothy sets foot on the yellow brick road, the story opens at Shiz University when Elphaba and Glinda are assigned as roommates on their first day.

Although the pair couldn't be more different at first glance, they soon strike up a friendship, which is tested by the arrival of the handsome Fiyero and their opposing views on politics and authority. When Elphaba's talent for magic takes her all the way to the Emerald City and a meeting with the Wizard, Glinda joins her. But they soon discover that the Wizard is not all he seems, with consequences that leave Elphaba branded wicked throughout the whole of Oz.

Who wrote Wicked the musical?

Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz (The Prince of Egypt) and screenwriter Winnie Holzman adapted the musical from Gregory Maguire's popular fantasy novel of the same name. Maguire's book is itself inspired by L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz.

Wicked is best known for its incredible songs, including "Defying Gravity", "The Wizard and I", "Popular" and "No Good Deed". After almost 20 years, these have become musical theatre standards that are loved just as much as some of the classics!

The Wicked West End Cast

The London cast is led by Alexia Khadime as Elphaba and Lucy St. Louis as Glinda. Other cast members include Ryan Reid as Fiyero, Sophie-Louise Dann as Madame Morrible, Mark Curry as the Wizard and Caitlin Anderson as Nessarose.

Idina Menzel, who originated the role of Elphaba on Broadway, also starred in Wicked in the West End when it first opened in 2006.

When did Wicked open in London?

The production premiered in London on 27 September 2006, after a hugely successful Broadway season. It has been seen by over 10 million people and is the 5th longest-running musical currently playing in the West End.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are Wicked tickets?

Ticket prices typically start around £27 and can go up to £200 depending on dates and availability.

What are the most expensive tickets for Wicked?

The most expensive tickets can be close to £200 and are located in the centre of the Stalls, Rows F - H, Seats 22-27.

For the price, you get what one theatregoer seated in H26 described as the "best view I've ever had for a show." From these seats you can see the entire stage and ensemble while still be close enough to make eye contact with the stars. You will feel fully immersed in this spectacular production.

How can I get cheap tickets for Wicked in London?

Cheap Wicked tickets in London can be secured by checking availability in advance - around 4 to 6 weeks - and comparing views from across the auditorium when booking on SeatPlan.

The Apollo Victoria Theatre is very large, so cheaper seats at the sides and rear of the Stalls offer a more detailed view than at the rear of the Circle. Seats such as ZD36 are very good value for money, and SeatPlan reviewers confirm that “you can see the entire stage brilliantly” even this far back. Other seats at the sides such as L4 are a good value option if you want to be close to the stage, with just a few restrictions from the angle.

Wicked discount tickets are sometimes available and offer good deals across a range of price bands. If you would like us to let you know about future discounts, sign up for an Alert.
