Young Frankenstein Tickets

Garrick Theatre

Mel Brook’s Young Frankenstein musical comes to the West End, with the comedy genius bringing his hilarious reworking of the classic tale back to the stage once more, with performances beginning at the Garrick Theatre in September 2017.

Mel Brooks returns to the West End with a reworking of his hilarious classic film Young Frankenstein. With previews beginning at the Garrick Theatre on the 28th September 2017, and an official opening on 10th October 2017.

A recently revitalised and reworked show, Young Frankenstein is a musical by Mel Brooks based on his 1974 comedy film of the same name, which first opened on Broadway in 2007 and became one of the hottest tickets in town having ran for over four hundred performances before going on a US tour.

Young Frankenstein was originally produced as a film by Mel Brooks in 1974, staring Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman, receiving a huge range of accolades, including nominations for the Academy Award for Writing Adapted Screenplay, the Academy Award for Best Sound and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.

The show is a comedy version of Mary Shelley’s classic horror novel Frankenstein, and particularly a parody of the Universal Pictures horror films of the 1930s, including their adaptations of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein.

The musical tells the story of Fredrick Frankenstein (pronounced ‘Fronk-en-steen”) the grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, who inherits the family estate in Transylvania. Along with the help of his hunchback sidekick Igor (pronounced ‘eye-gore’) and a leggy lab assistant Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick lands himself in the mad scientist role of his ancestors. Expect cries of “It’s alive!” as he brings to life a monster to rival his grandfather’s and of course hilarity when it escapes.

The show is full of hilarity for those who remember the original film, as well as being brilliant for newcomers, packed with the panache of the screen sensation with a bit extra theatrical flair added in for good measure and featuring the hilarious and unforgettable songs such as ‘The Transylvania Mania’, ‘He Vas My Boyfriend’ and ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’.

Young Frankenstein is the creation of Mel Brooks, one of the most successful comedy writers of our generation having an immense career that has spanned film, television and musical theatre. His movies have included such smash hits as The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs, having won a huge range of awards including Emmys, Grammys and Oscars, as well as an AFI Life Achievement Award, a National Medal of Arts and a BAFTA fellowship.

Young Frankenstein is directed by Susan Stroman, the acclaimed choreographer and director who had previously worked with Brooks on his smash hit musical The Producers on Broadway and in the West End. Stroman has a huge range of awards under her belt, including the Tony Award for Best Choreography and Best Direction for The Producers as well as Olivier Awards for Best Choreography on both Crazy for You and Oklahoma.

Hadley Fraser takes the lead role of Dr Frankenstein, after making his name as Marius in Les Miserables in 2002 and also starring in Coriolanus and City of Angels. Hadley is joined by Cory English as Igor.

Young Frankenstein is set to make its West End debut on the 28th September 2017, with an official opening night on 10th October 2017 and is highly anticipated to be one of the most hilarious musicals to hit the West End this autumn with tickets available now.
