About the show

Following an initial engagement at the National Theatre in Washington D.C., Beetlejuice the musical makes its Broadway debut this spring. A devilishly funny adaptation of Tim Burton’s cult movie set to wickedly catchy songs, Beetlejuice comes to life at the Winter Garden Theatre.

The musical follows quirky teenager Lydia Deetz, who has an obsession with all things ghoulish. To her delight, her new house is haunted by a deceased couple and the mischievous demon Beetlejuice, who loves wreaking havoc on everything around him. But when Lydia asks for Beetlejuice’s help to scare away anything with a pulse, the specter reveals his true stripes, and it’s clear she’s bitten off more than she can chew.

Alex Brightman and Sophia Anne Caruso bring Beetlejuice and Lydia to Broadway, having starred in the roles since the musical’s 2017 workshops. Brightman is a Tony Award-nominee (School of Rock) who has previously appeared in Matilda and Wicked. Caruso made her professional debut as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, and has worked on Broadway and London’s West End in shows including Blackbird and Lazarus.

Beetlejuice the musical is adapted from Tim Burton’s original film, with a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King, whose Off-Broadway comedy musical Gutenberg! The Musical received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations. Eddie Perfect (King Kong, Strictly Ballroom) provides music and lyrics whilst director Alex Timbers (Rocky, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) pulls double duty on Broadway with his production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical opening at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in June 2019.

With plenty of laughs and songs catchy enough to raise the dead, Beetlejuice at the Winter Garden Theatre is an irreverent musical comedy bringing a whole Netherworld of fun to Broadway.
