    Der Fliegende Holländer Tickets

    Metropolitan Opera House

Wagner’s early opera is a beautiful and tumultuous story that delves into the supernatural and asks if redemption is possible.

Wagner’s stormy tale of love and redemption

Wagner’s gripping ghostly epic Der Fliegende Holländer is revived in a soaring new performance by the Met Opera company this year, bringing a storm-tossed tale of love and sacrifice to New York.

The ghostly Dutchman can only step ashore once every seven years, and he searches endlessly for a woman who can free him from his curse. When his ship makes port in Norway, beautiful Senta seems to be the key to his salvation, but will she sacrifice life as she knows it to help him?

Der Fliegende Holländer is one of Wagner’s earliest operas and contains themes for which he would become beloved: the otherworldly stranger and the woman who sacrifices herself to redeem him. The magnificent score evokes the power of nature and the supernatural, made all the more resonant in François Girard’s ghostly production.

Bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny stars as the Dutchman in Der Fliegende Holländer at the Met Opera, alongside soprano Elza van den Heever as Senta, tenor Eric Cutler as Erik and bass Dmitry Belosselskiy as Daland.

Beautiful and surreal, book Der Fliegende Holländer tickets in New York to enjoy one of Wagner’s earliest triumphs.
