    Verdi’s intimate and tragic opera

Verdi’s intimate, profound La Traviata is performed by some of the world’s top sopranos in an exciting new interpretation from the Metropolitan Opera company.

This masterful opera is the starcrossed tale of courtesan Violetta and self-centered Alfredo Germont. As their tumultuous love affair unfolds, Violetta is confronted by the harsh judgment of fashionable society and must decide whether to make the ultimate sacrifice.

La Traviata is a passionate and captivating story, set to Verdi’s impressive, romantic score. With raw emotions, spectacular party sequences and a tender intimacy, it is one of the most beloved operas in the repertoire. The central figure of self-sacrificing Violetta has inspired countless other works of art, including Moulin Rouge!.

Tony Award winner Michael Mayer’s spirited production of La Traviata stars three captivating sopranos as Violetta: Nadine Sierra, Ermonela Jaho, and Angel Blue. The role of Alfredo is shared by tenors Stephen Costello, Ismael Jordi and Dmytro Popov, and baritones Luca Salsi, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Artur Ruciński perform as Alfredo’s father.
