Cult musical sensation Sing Street heads to Broadway this spring, bringing the sounds of ‘80s New Wave to the Great White Way. Set in Ireland during the Troubles and written by the team behind Once, the musical opens at the Lyceum Theatre.

In 1980s Dublin, unemployment is high and the lure of work in England grows stronger. As their parents fret about political and financial uncertainty, 16-year old Conor and his friends pick up their instruments and start a band. Combining the spirit of rebellion with the thrill of young love, Sing Street is a testament to teenage escapism infused with the sounds of New Wave music.

Sing Street is based on the Golden Globe nominated film of the same name and opened at New York Theatre Workshop to excellent reviews. Much of the cast returns for its Broadway debut including Brenock O’Connor as Conor, Zara Devlin as Raphina, Max Bartos as Darren, Brendan C. Callahan as Gary, Billy Carter as Robert and Martin Moran as Brother Baxter.

The musical is directed by Tony Award winner Rachel Taichman (Indecent) and adapted from John Carney’s screenplay by Enda Walsh. Walsh previously worked on the stage adaptation of Carney’s film Once, which went on to win multiple Tony Awards including Best Musical. Carney and Gary Clark provide the show’s New Wave inspired music, with choreography by Sonya Tayeh.

Celebrating the power of music and sharing the story of a generation, Sing Street is a musical that will resonate across the decades. It begins previews at the Lyceum Theatre on March 26 2020, with opening night on April 19.
