    Slave Play on Broadway Tickets

    Golden Theatre

Off-Broadway sensation Slave Play is set to open at the Golden Theatre, marking the Broadway debut of a powerful and radical new voice. Exploring sexuality, racism and power in the shadow of the Old South, the play begins previews on September 10 2019.

After generating rave reviews Off-Broadway, Slave Play is set to transfer to the Golden Theatre this September. Exploring the interplay of racism, sexuality and gender across American history, the show was a sold-out sensation at New York Theatre Workshop.

On the MacGregor Plantation, the Old South lives on as three sexual relationships unravel in the shadow of the master’s house. Amidst the crack of a whip and the breeze on the cotton fields, fear and lust entwine in a heady phantasmagoria that tears apart American history and confronts the intersection of power, desire and race in the 21st century.

Playwright Jeremy O. Harris is a student at Yale School of Drama and wrote Slave Play in his first semester as a graduate playwriting student. The show’s opening at the Golden Theatre marks his Broadway debut, with other credits including Daddy, co-starring Alan Cumming.

Director Robert O’Hara similarly makes his Broadway debut, with other creatives including scenic designer Clint Ramos and costume designer Dede Ayite.

The play features Off-Broadway cast members Ato Blankson-Wood (Hair), Sullivan Jones (The Looming Tower), Chalia La Tour, Irene Sofia Lucio (Wit), Annie McNamara, James Cusati-Moyer (Six Degrees of Separation) and Paul Alexander Nolan (Escape to Margaritaville).

Hailed by critics as a “supercharged, fearsome, and often terribly funny” (Vulture), Slave Play on Broadway mixes satirical and psychological acuity from the pen of a powerfully bold new voice in theater. It begins previews at the Golden Theatre from September 10 2019, with an opening night set for October 6.
