In the heat of Ohio’s summer in1976, an unlikely friendship forms between artist and single mom Diana and free-thinking yet naive housewife Alice. As celebrations for the Bicentennial begin across the country, the two women find a way through motherhood, personal and professional ambition and intimacy in order to find their independence.
David Auburn’s Summer, 1976 play marks the Broadway return of Laura Linney (The Big C; Ozark), following a startling and highly-praised performance in My Name Is Lucy Barton (2020). It is directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Proof; Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes).
