Playwright Keenan Scott II makes his Broadway debut with his bold and vulnerable new work about the inner lives and experiences of Black men in the USA. Weaving spoken word, slam poetry and rhythm into a compelling new American play, the show follows seven men through one day in Brooklyn.

Playwright Keenan Scott II’s latest work debuts on Broadway, exploring the joys, dreams and issues facing the Black community through a group of seven men.In Brooklyn, over a single day, a tight-knit group of Black men’s fears, dreams and joys echo beyond the barbershops and basketball courts in their community. Bringing together spoken word, slam poetry and rhythm to create a mosaic of experiences that are both universal and deeply personal, Thoughts of a Colored Man is a celebration of being Black and proud in the 21st century.
Keenan Scott II and director Steve H. Broadnax III both make their Broadway debut with Thoughts of a Colored Man, which features original music from Te'la and Brother Kamau. The play was previously staged to acclaim at Syracuse Stage and Baltimore Center Stage in 2019.
The main cast comprises Dyllón Burnside, Bryan Terrell Clark, Da'Vinchi, Esau Pritchett, Luke James, Forrest McClendon and Tristan “Macks” Wild.
Exploring the individual and communal in a richly theatrical performance, Thoughts of a Colored Man tickets are available through 20 March 2022.
