    Dear Evan Hansen tickets

Direct from Tony Award-winning success on Broadway comes Pasek and Paul’s unbelievable new musical Dear Evan Hansen. Arriving in Toronto for a strictly limited season, the emotional yet uplifting story follows the titular character try to cope with a lie that spirals out of control and plays at the Royal Alexandra Theatre.

Evan Hansen has never truly felt like he has fitted in. Coming from a broken home with limited friends at school, he wishes for a different life. When a letter that was never meant to be seen gets found, a lie begins to spiral out of control, and he begins to get everything he dreamed of. But at what price?

With a book by Steven Levenson and music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), the musical already features show-stopping numbers including “Waving Through a Window”, “Requiem” and “You Will Be Found”.

Dear Evan Hansen is directed by Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal, If/Then) and features choreography by Danny Mefford, orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, set design by David Korins, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Japhy Weideman and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

On Broadway, casting included Ben Platt in the title role, for which he earned a Tony Award. A profoundly emotional musical that is guaranteed to strike a chord with audiences of all ages, the contemporary show resonates deeply with anyone who simply wishes to be seen. Dear Evan Hansen (Toronto) is a solid musical with some very uplifting and poignant moments but at times the message felt a little forced. Think Newsies meets 13 Reasons Why. Is there space for cheesy show numbers in a suicide piece? I guess so, but they would need to be executed expertly. At times I felt the execution was lacking a bit. I saw a touring production and a few scenes felt a lit set light. The show needed to fill the space more. All in all an enjoyable performance, though.
